Kudzu Hill
Process
I drafted the melodies on piano and they sparked the idea of a story, which I loosely began to write in my head. I shared the melodies, overall feeling of the song, and initial arrangements for the musicians to reference, but encouraged them to run wild with their ideas. Being the awesomely talented creatives that they are, they did just that. Once I had all the recordings, I began to put the puzzle pieces together: balancing all the parts…removing sections….taking my dog on countless car rides to make sure it sounded good on the car speakers… Once the music was completed, the story was written out to be recorded. I then added the voiceover into the mix and the music was tweaked accordingly. It was a very back-and-forth, fluid process. All of these elements were carefully put together into something between a concept album and an audio book.
